For more than a hundred years, mines have been operating in Canada’s north, providing important economic benefits, not only for northerners, but to all Canadians.

However, basic ecological processes become disturbed and the surrounding areas disrupted.

The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences and its proposed Alberta Centre for Reclamation and Restoration Ecology will provide practical, science-based solutions with potential commercial application.
